The Application

Two blocks of unsold houses required comprehensive protection, especially because appliances and other fixtures and fittings had been installed on the completed properties. As the marketing of these properties had already begun, the security systems had to be discreet and unobtrusive. One of our IP-CCTV systems for remote monitoring had already been installed to cover the site itself, but geographical limitations of the site meant that we were unable to place cameras to cover a number of the properties without compromising their aesthetic appearance.

The Solution

The four units which required protection were very similar to those pictured above and, because they were so close together, only required two alarms to cover the entire application. Each window and door was covered, and a sensor which detects when the door to the boiler has been opened was also fitted to each property. Smoke detectors, high decibel sirens and glass acoustic listeners (activated by the sound of breaking glass) were installed to tackle the possibility of anti-social behaviour.

Initially, there was no facility for mains power, so we installed a battery operated system, which ran successfully for three months before our maintenance team attended to rigorously test and recharge the alarm; subsequently, when mains power became available, we fitted mains adapters and leaving the batteries as further backup.

To prevent any possibilities of system failure, the monitoring team remotely conduct hourly checks to each alarm, confirming the credibility of each of the components and the signal of the alarm itself on the cellular network.

The Site Manager, Marketing Suite and Mercury Solutions all retain remote key-fobs to make the alarm even more convenient and simple to use.

The Cost

Shepherd Homes already had one of our CCTV systems on site, but the site threw up limitations to the effectiveness of CCTV alone. We recommended that these alarms were installed to provide a complete security solution for the site. There was no extra charge to Shepherd Homes for this additional service.
